Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Some Of Your Questions
You can wait for your Bellissima Puppy on either our Litterlists or our Standby List.
On our Litterlist you have priority selection of puppies from a successful confirmed or current litter
To reserve your spot on the Litterlist we request you pay a $500 reservation fee. We keep our Litterlist to a reasonable number depending on the Mumma, how many puppies we can expect, how many pups we see on an ultrasound etc so that waiting time is kept to a minimum. For example—should we hope for 4 puppies, we would accept 3 families on the Litterlist. See Litterlist Deposit Terms
Our Standby List is for anyone who would like to be informed about puppies that may become available once Litterlist families have chosen their puppies.
We get asked a LOT about the difference between male and female puppies – we have generally found that Males tend to be the most affectionate, Females are more independent and sassy. Suer cully are generally boys. and while there are some exceptions, generally speaking males tend to be affectionate, laid back, even and easy going, whereas females can be more spunky and sassy. If there is super smoochy/loving puppy in a litter it is always a boy!
DNA testing is the only way to examine the genetic of each of our reeding dogs, it gives information about ,Coat traits, colours, diseases, etc, coat traits, colours etc. Knowing this allows us to select the best breeding pairs to ensure our pups will have the perfect coat type with low shedding and teddy bear looks AND will not develop any of the testable genetic diseases.
- When DNA testing for diseases there are 3 possible results for the pair of chromosomes responsible for the disease:
- 1. Clear – this means the disease causing gene is not present – both chromosomes are “clear” of the disease gene.
2. Carrier – this means the one chromosome is disease causing and one is not. This dog does not have the disease, will not exhibit disease symptoms or have medical problems as a result – but they “carry” the disease in their genetics.
3. Affected – this means both of the chromosomes are disease causing, the dog will be medically “affected” by the disease and will pass on the disease causing gene to all of its offspring. - This is why DNA testing and selective breeding is so important – because without it you could choose 2 perfectly healthy dogs that are both carriers of the same disease and unknowingly actively breed puppies with genetic diseases.
Every Bellissima Dog has passed our rigorous selection process before they are used for breeding including, Temperament testes, Health tests, including Heart and patella’s, Size, colour and confirmation including extensive DNA testin
Our parent dogs are friendly, loving, happy dogs that live as members of our family.
- NO dog breed is 100% a non-shedder and responsible breeders will not make this claim about their dogs – however selective breeding with dogs carrying certain genetics/DNA for coat types will produce minimal shedding puppies.
- All dogs (indeed all mammals) shed their hair. The amount of shedding can vary greatly in dogs with poodles and some “oodle” breeds being low or minimal shedders. Those with curlier coats also don’t drop hair as the hair they do shed often is caught in their coat.
- If a dog carries 2 furnishing genes in their DNA (Gene RSPO2), they are considered “double furnished”. Furnishings is another name for the facial hair on dogs such as the moustache, beard and eyebrows – for cavoodles this presents as a hairy face including hairy muzzle and is an indication the dog is not a straight coat.
- Double furnished breeding cavoodles are very desirable because their offspring will all be furnished, and have the “Teddy Bear” look cavoodles are famous for.
cavoodle coats straight, fleece and curly.
- The curly coat (or curly fleece) is similar to a poodle coat but not as thick or dense.
- The fleece coat is a loose coat with a gentle wave or slight curl. Sometimes the muzzle hair or head hair can be straighter.
- The straight coat is very similar to a cavalier coat with the key characteristic being a smooth (not hairy) face and short fine hair over the body. Sometimes the legs have feathers or longer hair and the ears can have a wave or crimped look.
